Ecovillages are urban or rural communities of people who strive to integrate a supportive social environment with a low-impact way of life; they also try to lead a sustainable lifestyle. To achieve this, ecovillages integrate various aspects of ecological design such as alternative energy, sustainable living, local currencies, and much more. It has been reported that more than 15,000 ecovillages are recognized in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and Japan.
The mission of KKNS is to contribute to community building and ensure the well-being of its residents and staff through sustainable, peaceful living conditions in connection with nature. KKNS has been running a "trial ecovillage", where the aims of an ecovillage may be attained through conducting field work, taking care of domestic animals, practicing sustainable living, connecting with local people, and hosting various workshops.
